We have moved to the second phase of boat searching, hiring a professional. So far it’s been great. Almost every boat he has sent us has been something we wouldn’t have otherwise considered, for one reason or another. Here are the contestants, in no particular order.
We checked out a 42 foot version of this boat about a year ago that a couple was cruising on. We liked the layout, but think the two cabin version of the 44 is a better layout for us due to the spacious forward cabin (the one in the front/pointy end of the boat).
The Contest 42 is something we would have never considered before, but our broker found one that has had a lot of updates and is listed at a very reasonable price. We have learned that these are very popular in Europe, but this is the first and only one I’ve ever looked at.
I have always heard that Island Packets are strong cruising boats, and they have almost a cult-like following. This is the smallest of the boats we are considering but we are told the layout makes the interior feel like that of a much larger boat.
This is the only boat on the list that has a separate shower and centerline queen in the aft cabin ( a bed in the back that is a decent size with space to walk around each side ). These were two major things we wanted when we first started looking at boats, but we aren’t sure they are really necessary. Bristols are know to be built exceptionally well and this one is a centerboard, which means it has a board that you can put down to increase your performance to windward (sorry, just Google that last statement if you don’t understand, it’s a little out of scope for this entry 🙂 )
So there you have it. Those are the 4 boats we are most heavily considering. What do you think?
